AI image generator on Google Business Profile

I led design for generative AI initiatives for businesses within Google Shopping, including an AI image generator tool enabling merchants to create lifestyle product images in context on their Google profile.

The problem

Businesses want more control over how their brand is represented on Google. Many lack the resources to produce high-quality, on-brand images, which are crucial for making a strong first impression and standing out in search results.

The solution

To empower small businesses and marketers, we created the Google Business Profile on Search—a centralized place where users can manage and customize their brand presence. I led the design for a new Generative AI content creation tool, enabling business owners to easily generate lifestyle and product imagery directly from their profile.

This project began as a winning hackathon pitch: an idea to use Gemini’s image models to generate high-quality visuals tailored for business needs. The goal was to productize our generative AI capabilities and embed them in a relevant context for end users. I collaborated with engineering, research, and product to define a clear user journey and the right level of customization and guidance for non-technical users.

 

Mockups

I created and tested multiple design iterations, focusing on clarity, ease of use, and creative flexibility. Usability testing helped refine the interface—from selecting image prompts and editing outputs to previewing images within the Business Profile. Final designs were handed off to engineering with detailed specifications, animations, and accessibility considerations.

The results

The tool’s intuitive UI and seamless integration with the Business Profile led to strong positive feedback from pilot users, who appreciated the ability to create polished imagery without needing a professional photographer. The feature also received media attention and praise when unveiled at Google Marketing Live 2025, boosting awareness of the platform’s AI capabilities and further validating the need for accessible, intelligent content creation tools.
